zozoi (ゾゾイ)
Here's just a special posting for one of my personal favorite, secret little cafes around Ikebukuro. Almost every time I come to Zozoi, I end up getting their signature quiche dish since it's unlike any I've had before.
They incorporate rice into the crusting, perhaps to make it a little bit healthier, but probably mainly because Japan has such an abundant supply of it, and it's more of a familiar taste and texture for the Japanese palette. I've come to appreciate this cute little fusion of French to Japanese cuisines.
The quiche dish comes with a small salad, topped with beets and carrots, two slices of a crispy banquette, and a bowl of flavorful soup. This time's soup was a light and refreshing dill-mushroom pottage, drizzled with olive oil. (I believe the main ingredient of the soup is mushroom, but, I forget what it was (since I'm writing this review a year later. lul).
Here's a variant of the soup, garnished with parsley leaves instead. Both times were equally delicious.
I always get a grapefruit juice to accompany my meal just because I love the sharp, citric, refreshing taste of it. Or I opt for an iced, coffee beverage to go along with a dessert. This time's finale was, perhaps, a houjicha cake. I'd definitely recommend one of their treats, they're always so yummy!
I've also gotten their chocolate cake and ice cream parfait, so whenever I finish fishing through my stream of thousands and thousands of photos, I'll update this review with a picture of it.
