Coffee Rin. Mainshop (炭火焙煎珈琲カフェ. 凛 本店)

Monday, December 3rd.
The brisk, wintry evening that I visited this cafe, my entire day hadn't really been the best of days. But, as of late, cafe sitting has been an enjoyable pastime for me, so even before I had entered the store my spirits lifted, but only slightly.

As per usual, the shopkeeper automatically spoke to me in English because of my gaijin appearance, but once I started ordering and asking questions in Japanese, she switched languages, which I greatly appreciated (usually store clerks continue to struggle in English, but maybe my Japanese accent and flow improved, thus she felt I truly understood Japanese?). But given this area, Ginza, a popular location for foreigners to parol, I understand why she greeted me in non-Japanese.

My first bite of their cocoa roll cake hit me right in the face. The rich, deep flavor of the Dutch-processed cocoa cake brought a smile to my grim face, and the mellow, yet sweet whipped cream brought a small, merry tear to my eye. I love roll cakes, and this one is definitely cream of the crop.

And after my first sip of Coffee Rin's special mild triple bean blend coffee, the haze that swirled around my head immediately lifted. The caffeine that I was in desperate need of was clearly present in this cup of joe.

I'm not a fan of smoking cafes, and unfortunately, this one allows smoking, but at least they somewhat have a division of the two areas. But, I wanted to sit at the counter, but sadly that was the smoking realm.

Also, something to mention, when I first climbed up the stairs and entered the cafe, the heat was pippin' hot. But probably due to the spot where I decided to take up shop, it got rather cold halfway through my stay.

The foreign crowd that came into the coffee shop near the end of my stay soured my mood; they were loud in both voice and unnecessary noises, continued to eat outside food when they were asked not to eat it inside the venue, etc. Hence why I had left (actually, I just had other plans), but aside from them, I'd say that this cafe is one I shall return to.

Update: Monday, December 17th, 2018.
I've returned, and this time I decided to try their cheesecake. Of course, it was delicious. And I stuck with their special mild triple bean blend coffee.

Update: Saturday, January 6th, 2019.
If you plan on studying here, don't come on the weekends. It surprisingly gets quite the crowd, and you'll end up waiting for a bit. Weekdays are definitely better for cafe sitters when the place is rather empty.
