Facebook Cafe: Pop-Up Cafe in Harajuku
Depending on your survey answers, you'll receive one of these three emoji pancakes.
Pancake Emoji Guide:
Heart emoji 💖:
Bittersweet pancakes, drizzled with dark chocolate and garnished with diced oranges and mint. The bitter, acidic flavor is since your privacy on SNS (Facebook and Instagram) is strong.
Shocked emoji 😮:
Semi-sweet pancakes, topped with caramel sauce and a sprinkling of nuts since you're somewhat knowledgeable and protected with your security.
Sad emoji 😿: Sweet pancakes.
Doused with white chocolate and strawberries because your security is 'ama-sugi' 甘すぎ (Too sweet/too weak).
The flavoring of the pancakes is a Japanese pun, one that was cleverly thought out.

Actually, they made a slight mistake with my pancakes at first and gave me the semi-sweet flavoring, but with a heart emoji. I arrived right when they launched the shop, and immediately they were overwhelmed so I can understand the small mix up. They later corrected this minor error, but not in time before my interview?? I'm not sure which media outlet I was interviewed by, perhaps NHK? but it was super nervewracking with all the press swarming around everyone's tables and filming us eating?? I did not expect things to be that chaotic at the tiny 3-day popup.
Anyway, if you're in Tokyo and have some time to check out Facebook's popup cafe, it's being housed at Aloha Amigo: Harajuku, nearby Cat Street. Enjoy!
