zozoi (ゾゾイ)
Here's just a special posting for one of my personal favorite, secret little cafes around Ikebukuro. Almost every time I come to Zozoi , I end up getting their signature quiche dish since it's unlike any I've had before. They incorporate rice into the crusting, perhaps to make it a little bit healthier, but probably mainly because Japan has such an abundant supply of it, and it's more of a familiar taste and texture for the Japanese palette. I've come to appreciate this cute little fusion of French to Japanese cuisines. The quiche dish comes with a small salad, topped with beets and carrots, two slices of a crispy banquette, and a bowl of flavorful soup. This time's soup was a light and refreshing dill-mushroom pottage, drizzled with olive oil.
